You Depart The Academy at Llandarcy and travel up through Skewen, Neath Abbey and Cadoxton before entering the country roads of the Neath Valley to Glynneath. From Glynneath you face your first climb towards Ystradfellte at the base of the Brecon Beacons. From the fast descent of the Devils elbow, Continue up to Defynnog joining the Llandovery Road. See how the legs feel before deciding on your choice of route.
At Llandovery and a feed station on the longer route you turn right and head towards the stunning scenery of the Llyn Brianne Reservoir. You will be faced with a tough climb of the Devils staircase, but the views when you get there will be well worth it.
After enjoying the downhill ride back to Llandovery you rejoin the route where those who chose not to go on the Reservoir continue the ride.
You will soon be faced with your next challenge the climb over the Black Mountains before heading in to Pontardawe. The final climb is short, but tough up over Rhos and down to Neath before returning to The Academy.

Route 1 – 115 Miles “THE DAM DEVIL”This is the 115 mile route with lots of arduous climbs with breath taking scenery, including the Ystradfellte and Devils Elbow with its fast descent and switchbacks. Onto Llandovery heading for the stunning Llyn Brianne Dam, then tackle the Devils staircase, into the valley to Llanwrtyd Wells, back to Llandovery and re join the 80 mile riders.

Route 2 – 80 Miles “THE DEVIL AND BLACK”
Following the same route as far as Llandovery where the ride splits and heads to Brynamman and the 500m climb up the stunning Black Mountains with a very fast descent to Pontardawe, Rhos, Alltwen, Neath and back to the Academy. |
